Norstein Out

9 Sept 95 -- Marty Nothstein looks certain to miss the world track
championships after crashing during training at the Trexlertown Velodrome
in Pennsylvania. He fractured his kneecap in the fall. Unable to train,
he's unlikely to be sufficiently fit to compete. Nothstein has been told to
stay off his bike for two weeks and to go easy on the knee for at least six
weeks. Marty was slated to defend his sprint and the keirin titles in
Bogota, Colombia. This injury follows food poisoning, a shoulder injury and
a concussion during the course of this season.

Lapebie has a rest day

The winner of the 1937 Tour de France, Roger Lapebie, who is 84 years old,
fell from his bike near the Bordeaux stadium after losing consciousness. "I
was riding at 15kph and then I found myself in hospital. Between the two
things .... a black hole. I've just come back from the doctor's and
everything's OK." Roger Lapebie suffered superficial face and shoulder
injuries and has gone home.

Leblanc puts the record straight

Luc Leblanc has demanded that French press agency, Agence France-Presse,
put out a correction to their story that he had flamed Richard Virenque and
had said he was seeking to win the World Cup next season. First, he said,
the Polti presentation took place in Milan not Rome. Second, he had not
accused Richard Virenque of talking too much and third, he had spoken only
of making an attempt to win Liege-Bastogne-Liege, not the whole World Cup
series.
