Jurgen Vermeersch tried 4 times in the final kms to stay away - each time in vein. Robbie Vandaele finally beat Palmans mates De Meester and Van Malderghem.

40 kms from the end, first with 5, then with 7 and then 10 tried to go against the wind and breakaway. At 10 kms to go, there were 23 riders driving. Jurgen Vermeersch was a km further on still. Dalgaard, Petersen, Vandaele, De Meester and Van Malderghem reacted with hard attacks by Peterson and Dalgaard. With 2 kms to go, he was caught by the hard work of Vandaele, who took the flowers for the 5th time of the season.
