Leontien

Leontien van Moorsel is disappointed with the KNWU (Dutch Cycling Federation). She won a criterium in Goor this weekend and expected an invitation for the World Championschip ITT in San Sebastian next month. But up until now the National Coach Piet Hoekstra hasn't said a word to Van Moorsel during this season.

Leontien: "I don't understand it. I won the national title ITT and today I rode away from four riders from the Dutch National team on one lap. That shows my qualities. I think they don't want to see me in the National team. With my results I proved I am in top condition. I am at the stage where I do not know what I can do in cycling anymore."

However, for Leontien fans, Van Moorsel has still one more target: the World Championships in Valkenburg next year. "I want to end my career in style. I hope I will get this chance from the KNWU".

Gert Jan Theunisse in hospital after crash

Bart Brentjens must train without his trainer/manager Gert Jan Theunisse during the 2 week lead up to the World Title Race in Switserland. The former rider crashed into a car during training for the World Cup round in France (see results above). Theunisse crashed into the front of a car during a descent. He was taken to the hospital. At first he has no feeling in his back. But slowly the feeling came back. Theunisse will not stay long in the hospital. He has nothing really serious. Several muscle and tendon injuries. "I must still remain in France for a number of day" said Theunisse. "The doctors say I was very lucky. It means that Bart will have to train for the World's alone. But I shall be well enough to be at the race with him."

Jay Sweet to BigMat Auber

Not confirmed officially yet but the news is that Big Mat have negotiated a contract with ZVVZ road sprinter Jay Sweet. Big Mat topped the deal that Italian team Scrigno-Gearne offered. Sweet will be staying with fellow Australian's O'Grady and Vogels while in Europe next year. Sweet is coming back into form after breaking his collarbone recently. He has also had three falls subsequently but still managed to lead out in Sunday's Tour le'Avenir to get 3rd place. Sweet has had a sucsessful season with seven stage wins to his name. Sweet will start the Esssen Tour but will return to Adelaide at the end of September to prepare for the Commonwealth Bank Classic.
