Russians pull out of Worlds
Russian cyclists Dimitri
Konichev & Piotr Ugrumov, from Team Roslotto, will not
participate in the World Championships in San
Sebastian, because of money problems. Konichev, the
team leader for Roslotto, explained, in a letter to
the Russian Cycling Federation, that they had not paid
the late payments that they were supposed to pay on
Sept. 20. Konichev added that the Russian National
Fund for Sports was incapable of respecting the
financial promises contracted by the Italo-Russian
Team (Roslotto), which owes the rider US$50,000.
The Russian Federation confirmed the participation of
the following riders for the Worlds: Viatcheslav
Ekimov, Eugeni Berzin, Pavel Tonkov, Vladislav Bobrik
& Serguei Ivanov.
