Contracts and Transfers
Godert de Leeuw this year active in the Foreldorado-team signed a
contract for the Giant-Lowik-P&O cycling team. There is a change that
his teammate Lucien de Louw goes to the Dutch mountain-bike team of
Giant. In that case he will start in some races for the Giant-Lowik-P&O
team
Some news from Sweden: Martin Rittsel and Marcus
Ljungquist, both Team Wirsbo, has signed a contract for 1 year with the
Italian team Cantina Tollo.
GAN news
Two sponsors have reached an agreement which will ensure the GAN cycling team remain a force
until the year 2001.
The GAN insurance company were to have dropped their sponsorship of the team managed by Roger Legeay and featuring
Briton Chris Boardman and Frenchman Frederic Moncassin next year but will back it until August when the Credit Agricole bank
can take over.
Credit Agricole, keen to sponsor a top cycling team, are engaged until July as one of the chief sponsors of the soccer World Cup
taking place in France from June 10 to July 12.
Under 23 MTB Worlds
In Switzerland (Chateau d'Oex), the Frenchman Miguel Martinez won
the Cross Country World Championships for Espoirs (under 23). The
French Champion dominated the whole race and by the finish was more than
6 minutes ahead of Australian Cadel Evans. The bronze medal was
won by Italian Dario Acquaroli. The Belgian, Roel Paulissen was 5th
more than 10 minutes down.
The junior title was won by the Swiss rider Frans Kehl with Cecilia Potts
from the USA winning the women's junior race.
