GP Zwevezele, National Event (No UCI Points)

Belgium, October 9, 1997

Report

This was the last West Flanders professional race for the season. 11 riders went clear from the peloton on the 2nd lap. The Russian rider, Vadim Volar found the pace too fast but the remaining 10 settled into a tempo.

Robbie Vandaele, the "Kermis King" continued to do business and won the race. "Apart from Wim Feys, John Talen, Bart Voskamp and myself, there was no serious challenger who could attack. In the last lap, Voskamp attacked. I had enough left to follow the TVM'er and beat him in the sprint. My ambitions now turn to Putte-Kappellen on Tuesday." said the 25-year old rider, who has won 7 kermesse races this year.
