Brief

Gianluca Bortolami from the Festina team won the Tour of Piemonte, a semi-classic in Northern Italy. The 200 km race finished in the streets of Turing and he beat his fellow Italian Paolo Lanfranchi. Bortolami was third in Milan-Turin on the day before (Wednesday).

During the last climb of the final lap, Bortolami escaped with 5 other riders. Lanfranchi went off the front but Bortolami reacted successfully. Another Italian, Biagio Conte, was third at 23 seconds. Of the 172 starters, only 73 finished in Turin.
