Swiss Team for the Worlds:

Switzerland has a quota of 13 riders, because Pascal Richard, as winner of the Olympic road race, is automatically qualified. The following 11 riders are already selected:

Pierre Bourquenoud (PMU ROMAND), Oskar Camenzind (PANARIA), Laurent Dufaux (FESTINA), Mauro Gianetti (POLTI), Fabian Jeker (FESTINA), Armin Meier, Roland Meier (both PMU ROMAND), Felice Puttini (REFIN), Pascal Richard (MG), Tony Rominger (MAPEI), Beat Zberg (CARRERA), Alex Zuelle (ONCE).

The 13th rider will be Rolf Huser or Franz Hotz both from PMU ROMAND.

Time Trial: Tony Rominger and Alex Zuelle.

Italy's Team for the Worlds:

The Italian selection, "SQUADRA AZZURA", consists of the following 12 riders:

Michele Bartoli, Gianni Bugno (both MG), Francesco Casagrande (SAECO), Claudio Chiapucci (CARRERA), Alberto Elli (MG), Gianni Faresin (PANARIA), Andrea Ferrigato, Marco Fincato (both ROSLOTTO), Fabrizio Guidi (SCRIGNO), Roberto Pistore (MG),Davide Rebellin (POLTI), Andrea Tafi (MAPEI).

Substitutes: Massimo Donati (SAECO) and Stefano Faustini (AKI).
