Women's Road Race

Jeannie Longo Wins in 02:37:45

   * Longo was in a group of four riders who crashed going up the hill on
the second lap. She became detached from the leading group after the
accident but caught up with them during the third lap.

   * "I felt an intense pain and I was afraid I wouldn't be able to finish,
but gradually I recuperated," Longo said. Immediately after winning the
race, Longo had stitches put in the three-centimeter wide gash in her right
leg caused by the crash.

   * The crucial attack came going up the climb during the final lap when
Longo broke away from Marsal after the two French riders had already gone
clear of the rest of the field.
