Tour of Piedmont - Italy
Claudio Chiappucci's victory on Thursday in the Tour of Piedmont was his first
since the Japan Cup almost exactly a year ago and his second in this race (his
first in 1989, was his first pro victory). "I would like to profit from my
current good form in the Giro di Lombardia on Saturday," he said. The decisive
moves in the race came after Gord Fraser (Motorola), Zbigniew Spruch (Lampre)
and Gabriele Missaglia (Brescialat) broke clear to breast the final climb 14
seconds ahead of Michele Bartoli (Mercatone), Davide Cassani (MG), Stefano
Zanini (Gewiss) and Chiappucci. Chiappucci took off on the descent and
overhauled the four leaders.
