Montjuich Hill Climb - Spain


After being second to Tony Rominger last year Claudio Chiappucci went one better and won the 32nd Escalada a Montjuic (Sunday 10/22). This is a hilly race on the "Olympic mountain" Montjuic in Barcelona, in two parts and invitation only.

Melcior Mauri Spa Once + 4.19 The first section of the last race of the Spanish pro season, a 24.3km race "en ligne" was won by Chiappucci, 20 seconds ahead of Virenque. Chiappucci finished second in the time trial section (8.7km) behind Gianetti. Laurent Jalabert, who replaced the injured Marco Pantani in the race, finished more than five minutes behind the winner.
