Patrice Sulpice
French sprinter Patrice Sulpice, who fractured two dorsal vertebrae in
practice for the Worlds and is yet to recover the use of his legs, was
operated on againWednesday night/Thursday morning last week (after surgical
intervention while in Colombia) at the Pitie-Salperiere hospital. "The
fractures of the seventh and eighth dorsal vertebrae were fixed with a
plate and screws," reported a communique from the surgeon, Dr Mabesoone.
"The operation went as well as we expected, but the functional prognosis is
still uncertain [French doc-speak -- le pronostic fonctionnel reste
reserve]. The second day after the operation, the patient is bearing up
well and has good morale."
