Longo Heads East
Jeannie Longos plan to attack the world hour record at the end of the
month has had to be modified. She is not able to use the Stuttgart track
because it is currently committed to ice hockey and has therefore decided
to go to another 250m German track, at Frankfurt an der Oder near the
Polish border. The new attempt, on a track which she has never ridden, is
scheduled for 31 October or at the latest the next day.

Sparkling Field of Oldtimers
The Grand Prix des Retrouvailles takes place next weekend at Regnie-
Durette in the Beaujolais region of France. The peloton will include such
stars of the past as Bahamontes, Wolfsholl, Motta, Zoetemelk, Darrigade,
Roger De Vlaeminck, Janssen, Hoban, Aimar, Stablinski, the Groussard
brothers, Graczyck, Jimenez, Pingeon, Altig, Defilippis, Beheyt, Delisle,
Mahe, Desmet, Kelly, Kunde, Rostollan, Bernard, Rolland and Guimard.

Chazal Is Dead, Long Live MBK-Konig
Chazal directeur-sportif Vincent Lavenu is confident that he will be
managing "at least a little team" in 1996, despite having found no
sponsor to replace Chazal. MBK-Konig will continue to sponsor the team
but are looking for an additional sponsor. Lavenu has retained the
services of Christophe Mengin, Gilles Bouvard, Martial Locatelli,
Arturas Kasputis and Jaan Kirsipuu.

Southern Comfort
The new team based in the South of France managed by Michel Theze
and Marcel Jambois is still nicknamed the Equipe du Sud but its
organizer, Gilles Gallais, says three sponsors are in place, a budget of 20
million French francs (US$ 4 million) has been agreed, and 12 riders
have been signed. A further four riders are being sought including
Thierry Marie in whom the La Creuse team has also expressed an
interest. Gallais says the sponsors are already known to the riders and
will be announced towrds the middle of November. The riders signed so
far are Dominique Arnould, Thierry Bourguignon, Dominque Bozzi,
Pascal Lance, Christophe Capelle, Jean-Jacques Henry, Roberto Pagnin,
Michel Zanoli, and four neo pros -- Christophe Bassons, Anthony Morin,
Xavier Jan and Christophe Rinero.
