Contracts and Transfers

- Alberto Volpi and Emanuele Bombine will be the leaders of the new Italian Riso Scotto-team with Vladislav Bobrik, Nicola Minali, Fabio Baldaato, Stefano Casagrande and 12 other riders. Most of the riders are coming from Batik.

- Joop Atsma has been reappointed as chairman of the KNWU (the Dutch cycling union) for another 4 years. There were no other candidates.

- Erwin Nijboer goes to MGI Fietsen (former De Jonge Renner) next season. He has decided to switch from MTB racing to road-cycling. Last season Nijboer was with the mountain bike team American Eagle.

1998 Giro d'Italia

The 1998 Giro d'Italia route will be presented on Saturday at the Lirico Theatre in Milan. There will be a direct television coverage of the presentation from 15.30. This is the 81st edition of the race which is organised by the Italian sporting newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport and will run from Saturday May 16 to Sunday June 7 1998.

Attending the presentation will be 1997 winner Ivan Gotti (Team Saeco), 1996 winner Pavel Tonkov (Mapei-GB) from Russua and Giuseppe Guerini (Team Polti).

The Gazzetta will bring a full coverage in its Sunday edition and will conduct a general forum on its Internet Site at www.gazzetta.it. Angelo Zomegnan, responsible for cycling coverage will respond directly between 17 and 18.30.
