Longo breaks 5 km recordOlympic and World champion Jeannie Longo of France broke the five kilometres cycling world record when she clocked 6:05.839 on the Grenoble track on Sunday.The 38-year old rider set the previous record of 6:17.698 on the same track in November 1991. Longo, who became the first woman to go beyond the 48 km in an hour when she covered 48,159 km on the Mexico track last month, raced at an average speed of 49.202 kph in front of cheering fans on Sunday. |
