Swedish win on hilly stage

The Telekom-riders continues to dominate the Peace Race. On stage 3, with a mountain-top finish on Lysa Hora (Frydlant), it was the Swedish rider Michael Andersson who broke away from the leading group in the last kilometres. Steffen Wesemann is still overall leader while Andersson moved up to second place.

Overall win and seven stages for Wesemann

With seven stage wins (equals Olaf Ludwig's record from 1986), overall lead from stage one, Steffen Wesemann and his Telekom team totally dominated the 1996 Peace Race. Wesemann was also overall winner in 1992 as amateur. Telekom was also the only first division pro team in the race. 25-year old Wesemann now hopes for a place in Telekom's Tour de France-team where there are three places open. Riis, Heppner, Bolts, Zabel, Aldag and Meinert are already selected.
