Fabio Casartelli, the 1992 Olympic champion, produced his best performance of the season so far with third place in the dash for the line. The stage went to Adriano Baffi, already a winner of three races this year, who edged out the rest in the sprint. Baffi's win also gave him the overall lead in the race, while Casartelli moved up into fifth place in the overall standings. The race finishes with a time trial in Murcia on Sunday and should give both Casartelli and Peron a good chance to move a little higher in the standings.
