Fabian Jeker Injured
Swiss Festina rider Fabian Jeker received multiple injuries when he was in
collision with a car earlier this week while training. He has a double fracture
of the radius and ulna, a broken collar bone, a broken rib and a head injury. He
was to have ridden in the Vuelta Ciclistica a Chile (13-24 March); his place in
the Festina team will be taken by Jean-Cyril Robin. The other Festina riders to
go to Latin America for the race are Herve, Moreau, Plaza, Garcia Casas and
Arenas.
Gimondi Junior
Massimo Gimondi, the son of Tour de France (1965), Paris-Roubaix (1966) and
Giro d'Italia (1967, 1976) winner Felice Gimondi, looks likely to join other
scions of famous cycling families such as Axel Merckx and Jean-Luc
Vandenbroucke's nephew Franck in a "pro" team. The 25 year old is presently
riding for a Saeco offshoot, Vigoplant-Saeco, and earlier this week finished
second to Filippo Casagrande (Scrigno-Blue Storm) in a race at Sant'Agata
Militello in Italy.
