5:56 PM BALDATO WINS STAGE
Italian Fabio Baldato (Mg-Technogym) won a sprint finish at the end of the 233.5 km stage between Dinan and Lannion. Following right behind was Frenchman Laurent Jalabert, leader of ONCE. Djamolidine Adoujaparov from Uzbekistan, who heads the Novell team, came in third. Frenchman Jacky Durand retains the yellow jersey.
5:33 PM - Jalabert Wins Sprint
French favorite Laurent Jalabert (ONCE) won an intermediate sprint as the pack closed in towards the finish in Lannion. That gives him six bonus points. He finished 28th in Saturday's prologue, coming in 28 seconds behind the winner Jacky Durand.
5:22 PM - Dekker Maintains Short Lead
Dutchman Erik Dekker (Novell) maintained a lead of about 40 seconds as the pack raced the last 20 km to the finish in Lannion. Rain splashed down but the route was not slick, thanks to the past few hours of intermittent sunshine.
4:13 PM - First Breakaway
Dutch rider Erik Dekker (Novell) shot out in front of the pack about 80 km before the finish. Tour leader Jacky Durand and his Castorama team trailed the Dutchman close behind, picking up their pace.
2:28 PM - THE WEATHER CLEARS
The rain stopped as the riders climbed the peak at Cote de Langueux just after the first sprint. Slovakian racer Jan Svorada (Lampre) won the sprint, worth 6 bonus points. The pace has picked up from 33 km/hr to almost 40 km/hr. Castorama, which has the yellow jersey, is still keeping up the pressure.
1:49 PM - Castorama Stays in the Lead
Frenchman Francois Simon of Castorama launched an attack as the pack moved towards its first sprint at Sables-d'Or-les-Pins-Frehel on the Brittany coast. Clearly Castorama is keeping up the pressure after team member Jacky Durand won the leader's yellow jersey in the prologue Saturday. Rain continues to pour down on the wind-swept route westward towards Lannion.
1:30 PM - Castorama Stays in the Lead
Frenchman Francois Simon of Castorama launched an attack as the pack moved towards its first sprint at Sables-d'Or-les-Pins-Frehel on the Brittany coast. Clearly Castorama is keeping up the pressure after team member Jacky Durand won the leader's yellow jersey in the prologue Saturday. Rain continues to pour down on the wind-swept route westward towards Lannion.
12:33 AM - The Tour Cruises Along the Brittany Coast
The pack took off this morning from the historic town of Dinan in Brittany without British time trial specialist Chris Boardman. After crashing in the prologue, Boardman spent the night in the hospital. According to his trainer, Roger Legeay, the Briton is being flown to Manchester to be operated on for a double fracture in his left ankle. Legeay said Boardman is in good spirits but very disappointed.
