Rolf's Diary Update

Zug, 23 June 97

7th stage, Tour de Suisse

First of all, thanks a lot for all the emails that I received in the last few days. I'll attempt to answer a few of the most asked questions.

It's actually true that I rode the time trial without warming up, not really healthy and bound up with a lot of pain, but for the riders way back in GC it's normal. Recover as much as possible and do as few kilometres as possible, that's the motto of the time trial. And my daily schedule: 7:30 get up and eat breakfast, bread, croissants, muesli, no spaghetti, pack my bags and still read something in the paper. 10:15 team meeting, 10:30 to the start with the bike (5km), 11:50 start the stage, 17:00 finish, still 30 minutes with TV interviews, then 40 minutes to the hotel by car, shower, my report for the newspaper "Blick" ("View") (I still do that as well), 19:15 massage for 50 minutes, 20:30 eat until 22:00. Think about my internet report and around 23:00 recovery is recommended.

8th stage, Tour de Suisse

I'm worn out. Alberto Elli and I rode 120km on the front of the first peleton. The rest of our team was behind and lost 24 minutes. But I have to say, we rode very strongly even if that stinks of self-praise. I'll write a little less today, I need to recover.
