Short report

22 year old Michael Steen Nielsen today won Denmark's oldest race: Fyn Rundt that was first run in 1894. He succeeded in escaping from a leading group of 10 riders that entered Odense for the last 4 circuits. The favorites for the race - Nicholai Bo Larsen and Tayeb Braikia - therefore had to sprint for the 2. position. Another favorit - last years winner Michael Sandstød finished 10th.

Eight riders entered the final circuit which had to be done five times to finish Fyn Rundt --the race of the island of Funen (211 km), with a lead of one minute. Two riders who were able to close the gap, were the final winners. Around two kilometers from the finish Michael Steen Nielsen of Kxge broke away never to be caught again. The strong rider who has represented Denmark in the time trial world championship crossed the line some hundred meters ahead of Tayeb Braikia (Gittermann, DK) and Nicolai Bo Larsen (Amore & Vita, DK) winning the sprint among the following group.

The riders of the Danish Team Acceptcard carried crepe bands in mourning of a member of the team, 26 year old Danish top rider Lars Pingel who unexpectedly was found dead in his bed Saturday with no apparent death reason. Pingel was the son of the former Nordic champion Ole Pingel and was supposed to participate in Fyn Rundt.
