Rolf's Latest Diary Entry

Zihlschlacht, 29 May 97

Because of environmental and comfort reasons I took the train to Zurich. Afterwards I had to look for the French Consulate, stand in a line by the entrance for over an hour in order to wait in reception room again for 30 minutes. Finally, I was permitted to fill out endless forms, give my five passport photos and my passport. Then I found out that the doctor, with whom I sacrificed an entire day, forgot to sign two of the forms! I could have just screamed! And all this because of a work permit, which I need to work in France because Switzerland is not in the EC.

My wrist hurts. I played tennis for the first time. And in fact with Olympic champion Vreni Schneider and Franco Cavegn, both Ski racers, and with Thomas Sutter. Of course I looked old, but one cannot do everything well.

I trained again with Alex Zulle. He's riding very strongly and had to struggle the whole day. After four hours of training we rode behind the motorcycle of Walter Zulle for another 60 km. Afterwards, I had to ride another hour home, where I arrived in sad shape. 202 km in 5:50 hours. Now I'm happy that it's raining, so tomorrow there'll be a little fewer kilometres.
