Stage 3 Notes
On Stage 3, the PMU Romand team spent much of the time on the front of
the peloton, with help from the sprinters teams, chasing down a
two-man break -- Rolf Aldag (Telekom) and Tour of Luxembourg winner
Alberto Elli -- that got clear 30km from the start. Aldag and Elli
built a maximum lead of 8.14 at km126 but was caught 7km from the
finish having been away for 181km. Armin Meier -- a good climber
who won the mountain jersey in the GP Wilhelm Tell last year, but can
also time trial, he won the Tour of Normandy prologue in 1995 --
retained his overall lead.
