Headline: Keirin Racer Kamiyama to represent Japan at Atlanta in Men's Sprint

The Japanese Cycling Federation (JCF) held a selection conference on 27th May at the Japanese Cycle Sport Center in Shuzenji, Shizuoka to select representatives for the fmen's sprint at the Atlanta Olympics.

They selected a Keirin racer, Yuichiro Kamiyama (from Tochigi pref.) who was last year's top ranked racer in terms of winnings (he won about 1,710,000 US$).

The JCF had six riders, five Keirin racers and an amateur, gathered there and staged two selection races Each race was won by Kamiyama.

He is the second professional rider, taking advantage of the fact that Atlanta is the first Olympics where professional riders are allowed to compete, to be chosen to represent Japan. The other rider selected from the professional ranks is Takabonu Jumonji (Ibaragi pref.) in men's 1km TT (reported yesterday).
