Today was the prologue of the Rheinland Pfalz. A 6.5 km time trial in
Koblenz. The course was a fairly tricky and the weather was showery. The
best time trialists including Marcel Gono (Australia) ZVVZ-Giant-AIS,
started last and were unfortunate to have to ride in the wettest
conditions, slowing the times.
It is a split stage tomorrow. (2 shorter stages) 70 km in the morning and 90
odd in
the afternon. It's likely to be tough.

Pretty ordinary day for the Aussies in the ZVVZ-Giant-AIS Under 23 team
today at the Rheinland Pfalz.
In the 2nd Stage Marcel Gono and Brett Dennis both suffered punctures at
crucial moments. The other members of the team waited and helped them to
get back but both lost time to the 1st group. Hopefully I don't have hard luck
stories tomorrow. The stage is from Montabaur to Bad Marienberg.

found it pretty tough. Marcel Gono was the best of our riders

Stage 3 Report
Yesterday's stage was hard and hilly as are all the stages of this tour.
Surprisingly 2 riders escaped from the front group and won with enough time
to take the tour lead away from the Rabobank team who look on paper to be
the strongest team here. For us (Giant-AIS Under 23 Australian team), Marcel
Gono had much better legs and was very active all day.
Deane Rogers however did not and pulled out of the race at the 70km mark.

ZVVZ-Giant-AIS Under 23 Australian team Update after Stage 5
Marcel is going well and we'll work towards a result
in the Time Trial on Thursday. Brett Dennis withdrew with a knee problem
that developed yesterday. John Pollock was dropped early today in the
Eiffel Mountains and stopped because he was too far behind the race. That
leaves only Tristian Priem to support Marcel.
Our only remaining rider in the Rheinland Pfalz Tour, Marcel Gono
(Australia, ZVVZ-Giant-AIS Under 23 team), is travelling OK and remained in the
bunch
this morning. The team of the leader let a small group get away which
took over the GC.

The afternoon stage was a 22km Individual time trial in good conditions
over an undulating course. Normally would suit Marcel but he's looking for
his mid season break now and wasn't 100%

Todays stage was aggressive from the start with everyone putting pressure
on the leader. It worked and the leader cracked and lost big time. Marcel
also suffered today and lost a bit of time (understatement!).
Last stage tomorrow. One very hard climb and the GC is as tight as it gets.
Could be another rough day.
