Race Report

Ridden on a pancake-flat 12.5km circuit at Dourges in northern France without a breath of wind the race looked like finishing with a mass sprint. It did, but only after a break from the first kilometres by Petit Casino's Pascal Chanteur. When he was joined by La Poste's Barthe and Ukrainian Voronin the break built a one-minute lead before being pulled back by a peloton led by a Collstrop team intent on launching Johan Capiot to victory. Chanteur's team mate Jan Kirsipuu had the necessary reserves to foil this ambition.
