Michael's Commentary

This is a very strong group of riders, notice that the 3 top pairs from Bremen is battling once again.

The winner will almost certain be one of these three or either Clark-De Wilde or Freuler-Bincoletto.

Compaird to last year we are missing riders like Rolf Soerensen (second last year with Veggerby) and Jesper Skibby. But instead we have Martinello-Villa and Brian Holm (Telekom).

Standings after Night Three

 1. Bruno Risi-Kurt Betschart (Switz) 134 pts

 One Lap Behind

 2. Jens Vegerby-Jimmi Madsen (Den) 151 pts
 3. Urs Freuler (Switz)-Pierangelo Bincoletto (It) 139 pts
 4. Silvio Martinello-Marco Villa (Italy) 133 pts
 5. Danny Clark (Aust)-Etienne De Wilde (Belg) 127 pts

Michael's Report Two

Here a little news from Copenhagen:

The first night (friday) was a battle between Martinello/Villa and Veggerby/ Madsen, or should i say Madison! Veggerby had some trouble adjusting to the short track of Copenhagen (192 m). The opening hunt was won by the the italians and the danes came in second. But Jimmi Madsen made a unbelievable sprint and beat Villa on the last lap of the one hour hunt later friday night.

The second night (saturday) was hard on Veggerby as well. He was afraid that he was sick, but the doc said it was because of too much work. Risi/Betschart took over the lead, but the italians haven't shown any signs of weaknes yet, so they will be very hard to beat.

The third day (sunday). Veggerby is feeling better, but Veggerby/Madsen is still having trouble following the italians. Martinello/Villa are showing why they are champions of the world. It is looking like a sunday picknic, when they take a lap.

Second report from Michael

Here is the last report from Copenhagen:

Before the final hunt it was clear that one of these 3 pairs would win:

number 7 Veggerby/Madsen with 297 points
number 6 Risi/Betschart with 290 points
number 2 Martinello/Villa with 289 points

Notice that Veggerby/Madsen is just 3 points away from a bonus lap (Remember no bonus labs in the last hunt). In the final one hour hunt, did no one get a lead in laps. This meant that the final 5 sprints (for 10,6,4,2 point) became VERY important.

Here is the result of these 5 sprints:

1. sprint 6,7,2
2. sprint 6,2,7
3. sprint 2,6,7
4. sprint 2,6,7
5. sprint 6,2,7

This means this final result:

Risi/Betschart with 332 points
Martinello/Villa with 325 points
Veggerby/Madsen with 319 points

Notice that Martinello/Villa would have won if they had won the last sprint. The result means that these 3 pair have won each 2 races this season.
