Report
Before the peloton came together, with Cipollini winning by inches
when Guidi and Lombardi came up to him as he threw his arms in the air
early, a break had got away that put Claudio Chiappucci in the lead on
the road. Chiappucci went away with Andrea Noe (Mapei) and Marco
Saligari (MG) after 52km building a lead of 1.20. They were caught
only 4km from the finish after Marco Milesi (Brescialat) had joined
them for a few kilometres as they rode into the suburbs of Naples.
