Former Cycling Sponsor arrested

Former cycling sponsor of Santa Clara, Enrique Tatai, was arrested on Monday. The Valencia Police found two kilos of cocaine in his possession. Tatai is director of Santa Clara, this company sponsored a small cycling team and became bankrupt last year.

Dutch to Mallorca

Three Dutch teams will race the Tour of Mallora: Rabobank, TVM and Foreldorado which starts on February 9. The Tour has 5 stages: the shortest being 82,5 km, and the longest being 160,5 km. The finish isin Magaluf on February 13.

Season Opens

The international peloton will have an appointment tday in the south of France, where the road calendar begins with the GP Marsiellaise. The first race of the season, has a route from Vitrolles to Aubagne on a layout of 140 kms. and it works as a prelude to the Etoile of Besseges, in program from tomorrow to Sunday. There are eight teams registered: Italians Mapei-GB and Team Polti. Fondriest and Sciandri will drive the newborn French teams Cofidis and Francaise des Jeux, respectively directed by Guimard and Madiot.

Bortolami Injured -- Out Till March

New Festina signing Gianluca Bortolami, injured while training with the team in southern France, will be out of action until March. Bortolami, Festina's main contender for the spring classics, notably Paris--Roubaix, where he finished second for Mapei-GB last year, seriously strained collarbone ligaments after colliding with a pedestrian who crossed the road in front of him. "It's a very hard blow," says Festina directeur sportif Bruno Roussel, "he won't be able to restart until March and he'll be too 'short' [of form/training] for the first classics."
