The Italain season opener finished in grand style
Unfortunately there were numerous missing faces on the start line,
most noticeable of whom were three of the "Big Names", Cipollini,
Baffi and Di Basco aalong with Museeuw and Nelissen.
Other "no-shows" were Tonkov, Bortolami, Willems, Sorensen and
Furlan.
The sprint was very exciting, as it took place straight down the
middle of the road (remarkable since Abdu was there) and there was
little doubt about the result.
The Scrigno-Blue Storm duo were clearly the strongest and at the
line it was Fabrizio Guidi over his team-mate, neo-pro Biagio Conte
by half a bikelength.
ON THE FINISH LINE:
1. Fabrizio GUIDI (Scrigno-Blue Storm) km. 157,500 in 3.36',
media 43,750;
2. Conte (idem);
3. Di Renzo (Cantina Tollo);
4. Abdujaparov (Uzb);
5. Rossato;
6. G. Petito;
7. Biasci;
8. Mc Ewen (Aus);
9. Verhouten (Ola);
10. Fagnini;
11. Gouvenou (Fra);
12. Spinozzi;
13. Pierdomenico;
14. Castignola;
15. Colombini.
