Super Prestige Cyclo Cross, Round 4

Silvelle, Italy, December 8, 1997

The current World Champion, Daniele Pontoni, completed a World Cup-SuperPrestige double in Italy this weekend with an emphatic victory in Round 4 of the SuperPrestige Cup. He repeated his defeat of Netherland's Richard Groenendaal in the same way that he won 2 days ago at the GP Solbiate.

The usual contenders dominated this race from the front: Richard Groenendaal, Daniele Pontoni and Adri van der Poel. Belgians Nijs, Berden, de Clercq and Wim de Vos from the Netherlands were in a chasing bunch but never threatened the top group. When the pressure was put on at the front, veteran Dutchman, Adri van der Poel was dropped. On the final lap, it was the Italian Pontoni who attacked and Groenendaal could not respond.
