City of Glenelg Criterium Championships, December 26, 1997

Glenelg is a beach suburb of Adelaide. This is a traditional race which is held on a tight circuit just to the north of the main shopping area.

Blustery conditions in this morning's City of Glenelg criterium saw 5 riders lap the field to take line honours. An early break by Gan's Stuart O'Grady was reeled in leaving Pt Adelaide's Matt Donnon behind to chase on his own. When O'Grady was caught at 3 laps to got Central Districts Corey Sweet counter attacked immediately opening up a 50m break only to be caught by GAN's work horse Patrick Jonker with 1 lap to go. The head wind sprint was lead out by Big Mats sprint specialist Jay Sweet and proved too much for Stuart O'Grady to counter.

Laszlo Bodrogi

To lazy to look back into the records, I asked in response to a reader request about the whereabouts of Laszlo Bodrogi, the Espoirs TT 2nd place finisher at the Worlds.

Well it was really a ploy to get my mate in Switzerland, Theo Muller to write and wish me a happy new year. Anyway he told me that for the period from September to December 1997, he is a stagiaire with the FESTINA team. In the last official UCI Ranking list (October 31th), he is listed as a member of Festina. Theo does not think he has been contracted for 1998 Festina's effort.

Spinergy

No officials from the company have contacted me yet but two people "with influence" have said they are to be banned. Rumours still.
