Some More Season End Analysis

Fernando Ferrari a regular contributor to www.cyclingnews.com and also a journalist with the Spanish cycling newspapers has sent me another of his analytical dossiers.

He also confirms something about Frontenis. He said "The description about frontenis sended by Trigo is perfect. I play frontenis every week and i have talked with Prudencio last wednesday. He confirmed to me that he plays "frontenis" with a friend, not pelota vasca.

So that is from (nearly) the horse's mouth. End of frontenis segment!

Guadeloupe for 2000 Tour de France

Guadeloupe has met with officials of the Tour de France Organisation to discuss the possibility of being a candidate for the start of the Tour de France in 2000.

A three person delegation of the Tour Organisation under the leadership of Bernard Hinault will spend the weekend on the Caribeean Island investigating the possibilities.

What some people will do for a holiday.

Gerrit de Vries starts a MTB team

Old professional rider Gerrit de Vries has formed a MTB team. Gerrit de Vries was active on the road with Buckler, TVM, Novemail, Novell and Polti, and has organised four sponsors and has found three team staff and a team leader as well. Riding with De Vries is Jacky Farnold, Rene Gaastra and Wout van der Vecht Team leader is Rein Gaastra, the father of Rene.

Moreover, the 4 riders will be members of the Amateur team, Noord Westhoek from Genemuiden (NL) and in the coming season will also ride some amateur criteriums and some classics.

Belgian De Bie faces the music ... soon

Is this the last weekend of racing for Belgian Cross rider Danny de Bie? He wants to win the Cyclo Cross race on Saturday in Ravels or otherwise on Sunday in Overijse. Time is running out for him. On Monday he has to front the BWB (Belgian Cycling Federation) and there is a good chance that he will receive a suspension for several months. He was requested to attend a drug test after the recent rac in Kalmthout. He came to the test two hours too late.

Where is Kyrghyzstan?

To lazy to look up my atlas(es) this morning I asked where this country was. The winner of the first World Championship B race hails from there.

Tom James tells me that it's an ex-Soviet republic, bordering China, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

So he took the time to look up the map. I was out riding!
