Press Reports that the End of Mig is near

The end of Indurain is near now that the Director of ONCE has taken an exception against high investment in one rider.

On December 31, the contract of the five-times Tour winner with Banesto ends. ONCE want him to ride for them but not for the enormous price he is asking.

Indurain is celebrating the end of the year feast days in vacation near Benidorm.

The last word will come in the first week of the new year.

Frits Schur back as leader

Frits Schur is back as leader of the amateur team, Golff Supermarkten. This year he was active as a companion for the professionals in the unassuming team Foreldorado/Golff.

In the new cycling season, Schur will be with the amateur team, Golff Supermarkten which will race in the top competition races. He has a team of 13 riders.

Pro Licence fees up in the Netherlands

On Friday, Maarten den Bakker, Jeroen Blijlevens, Michael Boogerd, Erik Breukink, Tristan Hoffman, Servais Knaven, Danny Nelissen, John Talen and Bart Voskamp have met in Breda. They are not happy with the cost of the new pro licences for 1997.

The price has risen by nearly 400 guilders ($A1 = $US0.78 = 1.23 guilders), from 1200 guilders to almost 1600 guilders. There is also a doubling of the insurance premium from 375 to 750 guilders.
