News for December 3

Agrigel-La Creuse

The full team of the new French-based Agrigel-La Creuse team (officially known as Agrigel departement de la Creuse) has now been announced. Contrary to my previous report, it will consist of 12, not 10 riders. These are Jacky Durand, Thierry Marie, Thierry Laurent (all ex-Castorama); Jean Francois Bernard, Jean-Pierre Bourgeot (both ex-Chazal); Herve Garel, Michel Vermote (both ex-Le Groupement); Jean-Claude Colotti (ex-GAN); Jean-Luc Masdupuy (ex-Aki); Stephane Conan (neo-pro, ex Bernard Sports); Denis Marie (neo-pro, ex-ASPTT Paris -- the younger brother of Thierry Marie); and Italian track rider Pierangelo Bincoletto. The team, whose main sponsors are Clermont-Ferrand-based frozen food manufacturer Agrigel and the regional authority of La Creuse, has a budget of about 8.5 million French francs (approx US$1.7 million). The riders will wear a predominantly yellow jersey with the name Agrigel in red lettering and the colours of La Creuse (green and blue). The team manager is Jean-Claude Cluis, the directeur sportif Marc Durant and the assistant directeur-sportif Gilles Mas.

Pantani Turns the Pedals

Cycling Weekly reports that Marco Pantani, who suffered severe leg injuries in Milan--Turin in October, began cycling on an exercise bicycle over the weekend of 25 November. He is continuing to receive physiotherapy.

Indurain on the way to 6th Tour-victory

Today, December 1, as usual, Miguel Indurain started training for the next season. A short ride of 60 kilometres on the streets of Pamplona was on the menu for the first day.

Next year the objectives will be a historical 6th Tour de France victory. 1996 also has another attraction for the Spanish champion; the Olympic Games in Atlanta.
