Stage 1 Report

Beikirch, a 27-year-old track specialist outsprinted Chris Horner and a 60-strong peloton after the race had regrouped about 12km from the finish by way of a chase led by French military team Bataillon de Joinville. This picked up a 15-man break including Millar, Saugrain (Cofidis); Horner, Seigneur (La Francaise des Jeux); Morin (BigMat Auber), Zamana (Mroz), Bratkowski (Team E-Plus Service) that had been away for a large part of the 100km race on a 5-km circuit. Before the big sprint, Breton sprinter Rodolphe Henry looked like having the race in the bag but suffered a tyre rolling off the rim in the last 100 metres.

Saugrain shook off Hatton, the last of several breakaway companions on the
finish climb to take the race. Morin counter-attacked to take third place.

Stage 6 Report

Frankie Andreu dropped Eddy Seigneur with 3km to go. Seigneur and Andreu had earlier broken clear from a small lead group 10km from the finish, the other members of the break being Vincent Cali, Sebastian Medan and Markus Andersson (VC Roubaix). The break formed before the race reached the finishing circuit (7.7km x 11) with the sun shining. The first 90km of the race, though, was ridden in heavy rain.
