Grand Prix Wieler Revue, Cat 1.5

Netherlands, August 31, 1997

Report

This was the third Top Competition win voor Rudi Kemna. His Team Giant-Lowik-P&O has won 4 of the 12 races in the Rabobank Top Competition.

The race was sponsored by the Dutch cycling magazine, Wieler Revue and started outside their office in 's Heerenberg. "The Henk Lubberding Classic" named in honour of the Dutch rider who retired in 1993 after a career solely with Peter Post and the GP wieler Revue was part of a celebration for the 20th anniversary of the Wieler Revue magazine. Herman Harens, the editor tells me their were stacks of "racing VIP" attending the celebrations and the race. Herman reports that he spoke to Tour de France winner, Jan Janssen and that Jan was very pleased with the picture of him that I had put up from the Ronde van Nederland (see photo collection for August). Jan said (very modestly) "Now I became at last famous, all over the world".
