Stage 2 Report
Andrei Tchmil took his second successive win after a stage involving
two second-category climbs. At the finish he slipped away fgrom a
six-man break that had got clear on the col de Farixa 5km from the
finish. Casagrande, Tchmil and Jalabert were the first away, soon
followed by Olano, Armstrong and Alonso.

Stage 3 Report
The hardest stage of the race, it involved four cols, including three
of Cat 1. Livingston broke clear 2km from the finish. Laurent Madouas
(Fr, Motorola) took the first initiative on the col de Bqueriza (km
148), taking with him Tafi and Fornaciari. Thety were caught 10km to
the finish ansd though Tafi and Fornaciari finished high up, Madouas
came in 41 at 1.54. Jalabert's sixth place was despite a crash 9km
from the finish -- he also pulled back a second on Tchmil through an
intermediate sprint.
