Amstel Gold victor Mauro Gianetti returned home in triumph to ride the Tour
de Berne, but retired two-thirds of the way through the race because of
the effects of the wrist injury sustained at km120 in Amstel Gold (see note
below). The Florentine Luca Scinto won after breaking away 18km from the
finish on the only climb on the circuit, which was covered four times. Race Distance: 204 kms

But when I saw that six of my Polti team-mates were waiting to pace me back to the bunch I couldn't decently not get on with the job."
