Brothers Victorious

The Portuguese Tour of Alentejo isn't on the international calendar but it received a big boost when Miguel Indurain decided to take Banesto along. The team's original booking, at the Tour of the Mining Valleys, fell through when that race was cancelled. On Sunday (April 28) Miguel Indurain took his first victory of the year when he won the 15-km prologue time trial. Who was second? His brother and staunch supporter Prudencio.

The next day the Indurains (and Banesto) scored again when Prudencio won the peloton sprint from team-mate Damien Nazon. Miguel Indurain came in fourth. After this stage M. Indurain led P. Indurain by 21 seconds in the overall classification.

The race finishes on May 1.
