Skibby collapses - Diagnosis: epilepsy

The 32-year old Danish professional Jesper Skibby collapsed late Wednesday evening in his home in Belgium. He had just returned home after riding the Fleche Wallonne. He was taken to hospital for examination and was later diagnosed as having epilepsy.

Now he has left the hospital but will have to rest for at least three weeks. The Belgian doctors have assured him that he can continue his career as professional cyclist.

Skibby has been followed by bad luck the last few months. In December last year he was involved in a serious car crash but escaped with minor injuries.

He had influenza for a long period just before the start of the season, had to abandon Tirreno - Adriatico after an injury and then had problems with tendinitis.

Before this last incident he was coming back into form, aiming at Liege-Bastogne-Liege and especially Amstel Gold Race, where he was 5th last year.
