Kappes and Martinello lost their lead in the evenings first 150 lap (42,75 km ) chase in a surprise attack from McGrory and Gilmore who won a lap and also took a lead in points.

In the sprinters event Jens Fiedler set a new lap record of 14.96 seconds with young Carsten Bergemann only one hundredth of a second behind. The old record was 15.03
