Casualty Ward

A burst pipe was spilling water across the circuit, causing some initial concern. With all but one rider happy to compete, C & D grades started, followed by A & B.

Cubitt put an end to McDonough's pleas for an easy race and attacked at the gun. Vizzari and Logan (in matching US Postal jerseys) worked on the front of the bunch to bring it all back together. Kenny and Hanson moved to the front to spread the work. Ward gave the bunch a late Christmas present in the form of a massive attack. Coming up the slight hill to the top of the circuit into the head wind, Wards gears jammed, and sent him over the handlebars and landing heavily on his hip. He was taken off to the casualty ward in the ambulance. We hope the nurses treat him well and wish him a rapid recover in time to race at the Nationals. The race was abandoned, and riders were given credit for next weeks race.
