Start 9.30am, finish 12.30pmResults Preview and course profile Previous stage ReportRobbie McEwen and Rochelle Gilmore wrap-up Bay Seriesby Karen Foreman Robbie McEwen and Rochelle Gilmore were determined the winners of the 2002 SKilled Geelong Bay Classic after a world-class morning of criterium racing around the tight Crown Casino circuit in inner city Melbourne today. Fifth on the day, Crown Casino team member McEwen roped it in with a total of 36 points, seven more than second place getter Hilton Clarke (SBR-elite), while Gilmore, ninth on the day, scored 44 points, 10 more than her closest rival, Hayley Rutherford, on 34. Actual day five honours went to Skilled Quest rider Scott McGrory in the mens and NSW rider Oliva Gollan in the women's. The B grade event on the day went to Tasmanian rider Ric Steele, having his first race since being forced off the bike for three months with severe head injuries following a crash during the Tatts Cup Series in regional Victoria last August. A huge crowd gathered to watch the races, which followed events at Rye, Barwon Heads, Geelong and Port Arlington, starting last Wednesday. For the first time since the start of the series, the weather was seeringly hot - around 37 degrees celcius. Race director John Trevorrow described the 2002 event as the best in its history.
