Bunch sprints were the order of the day this weekend at Burleigh Worlds, with Jon Cantwell scoring his third win in a row in A Grade and filling the vacuum left by Robbie McEwen when he departed to race the big guns in Europe. Although the pace was on throughout the A Grade race there were few succesful escapes, the most promising being Jim Burke and Hamish Brown, but they only lasted 10 minutes before being swallowed up by the bunch. Almost the whole field was there for the sprint, and 50 metres out it looked as though Stuart Monk was up for the win, but Cantwell put in a last gasp effort which got him the verdict by a tyre.
Big Karl Rameau has only recently been promoted to B Grade, but he has a powerful kick which saw him clearly out distance his rivals in the straight, Lindsay Smith also earned a lift to B Grade by winning the C Grade sprint once again, and Trevor Glazzner was too fast in D Grade.
