Live Report

Welcome to Cyclingnews' live coverage of the first event in the 2001 World Championships in Lisbon, Portugal. 40 of the world's best Junior Women cyclists will do battle over one lap of the Monsanto circuit.

First rider off is Maria Eugenia Parra Constante (Ecuador) with cyclists leaving at one minute intervals until Nicole Cooke (Great Britain) starts at 11:09 CEST.

11:14 GMT
All the riders have left, with Russian Natalia Boiarskaia the fastest at the 4.5 kilometre mark, over the hardest part of the parcours. German Madeleine Sandig has the fastest time of the finishers with 19:01.65, three seconds quicker than Poland's Maja Wloszczowska and Belgian Kathy Ingels.

11:25 GMT
Last rider to start, Nicole Cooke's time at the 4.5 km mark is slightly off the pace of Boiarskaia, who has stormed home in 18:54.40. Cooke is lying in fourth place behind the Russian and the two Lithuanian riders, but could sneak home for a medal.

11:31 GMT
Nicole has done a lot more than that - she has flown home over the final 7 km to finish in 18:45.76. She is once again the World Champion! Boiarskaia takes the silver, with Diana Elmentaite (Ltu) finishing in the bronze medal position.
