Britain's time triallists took to Cambridgeshire roads at the weekend with the holding of the RTTC national 10 mile championships at Sawtry on Saturday and Sunday, September 15 & 16. One week after taking the British Circuit Time Trial Championship, Stuart Dangerfield showed he had lost none of his form to take the title by 15 seconds from Michael Hutchinson, with Zak Carr in third place at 51 seconds. Dangerfield took 20.18 to cover the out and back course, reaching the five-mile point in 11.44. Hutchinson was 17 seconds down on Dangerfield at five miles and managed to pull two seconds back to finish with 20.33. Carr finished with 21.03, one second faster than triathlete Charles McCulloch. In the women's event, 25 mile champion Sally Ashbridge took her second 2001 title, her winning margin six seconds over Natacha Maes. British international Emma Davis was 19 seconds off of Ashbridge's winning 23.13. Best of the juniors was Adam Duggleby, 16, who had won the schoolchildren's event the previous day. Duggleby, the first rider to ever win both titles in the same year, took 21.45 to win the junior title and 21.46 the school's title. The Isle of Man's Mark Cavendish, 16, was second to Duggleby in the school's event with 22.16 while Chris Scott, 15, took third with 22.36. In the junior event Duggleby led his Team Velo Ecosse team mates to success, Russell Anderson, and Stephen Barker filling second and third places with 21.50 and 22.35 respectively for the 10 miles. Best girl was Claire Dixon with 24.32. To emphasis the point organisers immediately weighed the soon to be very popular winner, Julian Ramsbottom, with a giant set of scales, set up on the finish line. All of this, and of course the racing, attracted around 10.000 spectators to the event, making it sound like a thoughly good day. Now, who's up for next year?
