The weather in Saint Romain-de-Colbosc was perfect for time trials, with little or no wind and cool temperatures. The consistent performers in the professional peloton this year maintained their form and delivered ominous wanbrings to their rivals in the World Championships to be held in Portugal next month.

For Jens Voigt, the turbo diesel of the peloton, the GP des Nations crown is a just reward for a rider who not only wore the maillot jaune in this year's Tour de Franfce, but also rode selflessly in the defence of team-mate Stuart O'Grady's green jersey battle with arch-rival Erik Zabel.

Today, however, the German powerhouse was able to ride entirely for his own reward, which came in the form of an 11 second victory over Hungarian rider Laszlo Bodrogi of the Mapei-Quick Step team, with Swiss rider Jean Nuttli claiming third, another 28 seconds behind.

In the women's event, Saturn's Anna Millward is maintaining form all season, by claiming her second GP des Nations title with a one minute buffer over Solrun Flatas of Norway and Catherine Marsal of France. Last year's winner, Hanka Kupfernagal, could only manage fifth place, some 1.55 behind the winner.

While many of Millward's real rivals in the World Championships were racing in Italy, her form would offer encouragement for the Australian team as it heads to Portugal next month. Millward's team-mate Kristy Scrymgeour rode strongly to secure eighth place, 2.40 behind.

Millward said "I am feeling very happy today after winning. It was a long time trial - 37 kms and a demanding course with constant undulations, some long drags and quite a few technical twists and turns. I was riding my Olympic Time Trial bike and it feels great to ride - so fast!

"For me it was a nice confidence boost before World Championships. I am off to Italy tomorrow to join the Australian National team and I will travel with them on Oct 5th to Portugal for World Championships."
