National 25-mile champion Stuart Dangerfield added the British Time
Trial Championship to his list of honours when he defeated his number
one rival Michael Hutchinson over the 30-mile title race at Barrow on
Soar, Leicestershire. Dangerfield covered three laps of the hilly 10-mile
circuit in 1.05.46 to Hutchinson's 1.07.27. Third place went to Julian
Ramsbottom, well off of the winner's pace with 1.08.25.
Although it was a fine sunny day the wind that blew across the circuit
made for hard going for all.
Dangerfield and Hutchinson have another head-to-head confrontation
this coming Sunday when they meet in the RTTC national 10-mile championship,
in Cambridgeshire.
The women's championship, over 20 miles, was won by world pursuit
champion Yvonne McGregor with a time of 48.08, with Natacha Maes second
with 50.43 and 25-mile champion Sally Ashbridge third with 51.05.
Neil Coleman took the espoirs championship, again over 20 miles, with
47.04 while in the junior's title race Kieran Page was best of the bunch
with 44.47.
The championship was a joint promotion by Cycling Time Trials, the
body that governs the 'racing against the clock' side of the sport and
British Cycling, who run the road, track, MTB, cyclo-cross and BMX side
of the sport in England.
The event also incorporated the sixth round of the RTTC-Rudy Project
Time Trial Series.
