The first of the track season's major races was well won by the well credentialed rider from Blackburn, Barry Woods (O'Mara Cycles). Riding off a slightly generous mark of 70 metres, Wood overhauled front marker Bryn Coutts (180m) in the final straight of the 2000 metre Handicap event.
Coutts had won his heat riding alone the entire distance, and looked the goods to repeat his effort in the final, until a big effort from Woods got him over the line. The minor placings went to Warragul's John Wallan (120m) and local Veteran resident Doug Garley (70m).
In other racing on the day, the Elite Men's 3 Race Omnium was well won by local stalwart Warren Knevitt (O'Mara Cycles) from former Olympian Max Rainsford (Pro-Motion Cycles) in his comeback to competitive cycling, and Richard England (Blackburn CC).
Debra McCoy had her first win on the track, taking out the Front Markers Handicap from Junior star Brigid Farrell, Liz Williams and Brendan Ferguson.
